Zion's Camp

“Brethren, some of you are angry with me, because you did not fight in Missouri; but let me tell you, God did not want you to fight. He could not organize His kingdom with twelve men to open the Gospel door to the nations of the earth, and with seventy men under their direction to follow in their tracks, unless He took them from a body of men who had offered their lives, and who had made as great a sacrifice as did Abraham” (History of the Church, 2:182).

 Doctrine and Covenants lesson #27 was today's topic.  The Lord clearly tells the saints that the reason that they are being driven from Missouri and having problems is because of their own transgression (refer to D&C 101).  The prophet seeks the Lord's counsel on what to do for the saints in Missouri.  The answer comes that they need help reclaiming Zion.  However, this is an excellent example of things not turning out like you expect.  Those who relied on the Lord's wisdom and who were obedient were greatly blessed by this journey in many ways.    I thought this video of Zion's camp was a great summary of D&C 103 and 105.

17 Miracles - Must See Movie

I just saw an email from Desert Book telling me that this movie was in our area.  So Olivia and I went this afternoon to the matinee.  If you know me, I abhor spending $7.50 on a matinee.  Even going to the cheap seats with food ticket is a big stretch for me.  But when I watched the trailer and read the reviews on this movie, I knew I wanted to go, especially with tomorrow being July 24 our day of celebrating the pioneers and their trek to Zion.

It was so good that I am going to take my whole family to the movie on Monday for FHE!  It was such a beautiful movie.  Even though I had many tears through the whole film, there were also little glimpses of humor.  Olivia also loved the movie, and wanted to share some scenes with Paul - but he had her wait because he wants to watch it, too.

I hope you all take the time and spend the money to watch this movie, I know it will be in our area a week (through Thursday).  It was especially touching to me after just visiting Martin's Cove with my family a few weeks ago (I will post about that later - I have a lot of catch up to do) and having been on two youth stake treks to the cove with Paul.  It is near and dear to our hearts. New Year's Celebration

I enjoyed this short video this morning before church. It starts out with a little humor and then ends with a spiritual message of hope, faith, forgiveness, and Christ's atonement. It's a great message to start off the year of 2011.

The kids and I celebrated New Year's Eve with the Richael Family (Corbin was there but not pictured).  It was decorated so beautifully!  We enjoyed pizza along with other fun food.  Then we played Bingo for prizes!  Paul and Porter were in Burley for the weekend (on business) so they missed our fun. 

New Year Day Festivities

Last night Corbin, Olivia, Vivian and I celebrated the ringing in of the new year once again.  We enjoyed Subway sandwiches, Caesar salad, peachy flavored Sprite, tater tots with fry sauce, tangerines, and Chex Muddy Buddies.   We enjoyed dinner while watching the cute, new-released movie, Despicable Me.
