DAY SEVEN

Read and mark Exodus 25:8. Our homes can be like the temple. Today do one thing to make your home feel more like the temple. Examples: listen only to appropriate music, speak in a soft voice, express your love to your family, study the scriptures. As you fast tomorrow, consider asking the Lord to guide you this month on your spiritual journey.

Stampin' Up with my Discount

I have been a Stampin' Up! demonstrator for over 10 years, however, the last 2 1/2 years I quit doing workshops and just order product for myself. I am extending to you my 20% discount - but the cool thing is that it's "sale-a-bration" time. When you spend $50 (before 20% discount) on Stampin' Up! merchandise, you'll receive a free Sale-A-Bration reward. There's no limit-for every $50 you spend, you can select another free Sale-A-Bration reward (choose from 4 different stamp sets, ribbon bundle, or cardstock assortment). So stack that with my discount and it's a great deal! I will be ordering in the next couple weeks. I will put all the orders together and you can pick them up from me.

Let me know if you are interested at tiffwinward@hotmail.com

More Food Storage!

Where do I put all my food storage? Every time I bring home more cases of food from the cannery or more great deals from Albertsons, I wonder where I am going to put it. I have hid it everywhere including under all the kids beds and our bed, in their bedroom closets, in the linen closet, the laundry room cupboards, 20+ cases under the stairs, in the coat closet, in our big pantry, in the master bedroom closet (34 cannery cases plus tons of other items high on the shelves), in the office, and a little in the garage. I am almost out of hiding space- pretty soon it will be visible. My husband keeps asking me "When is enough -enough? How many years do you want to have on hand?".

However, I did find a new place last night in our mudroom! We have built in cubbies - along the top of two walls. The wall above is more hidden so I took all the decorations off that top shelf and came up with some paper blinds (hand crafted by me!- yes, I am a little crazy) to hide my food. My kids thought I was a genius! I like that it is actually hidden. I have it stacked to the ceiling in that 24" x 71" space. Be creative in your home - I'm amazed how the food can just melt into the woodwork.
Do you have any creative ideas to share?

DAY SIX

President Monson admits he is a "show-a-holic." In his talk, he shares a quote from "The Music Man:" "You pile enough tomorrows, and you'll find you've collected a lot of empty yesterdays." Plan to attend a worthwhile musical (too short of notice), or rent one to watch.

Thursday, February 26, 2009

DAY FIVE

Read and mark John 13:34. Hug your family members and express love to them. Use a note card and paper hearts to write "love-notes" to your loved ones.

We Surround Them - You are not Alone

"Do you watch the direction that America is being taken in and feel powerless to stop it?

Do you believe that your voice isn’t loud enough to be heard above the noise anymore?

Do you read the headlines everyday and feel an empty pit in your stomach…as if you’re completely alone?

If so, then you’ve fallen for the Wizard of Oz lie. While the voices you hear in the distance may sound intimidating, as if they surround us from all sides—the reality is very different. Once you pull the curtain away you realize that there are only a few people pressing the buttons, and their voices are weak. The truth is that they don’t surround us at all.

We surround them. So, how do we show America what’s really behind the curtain? Below are nine simple principles. If you believe in at least seven of them, then we have something in common." - Glenn Beck

12 Values
Honesty
Reverence
Hope
Thrift
Humility
Charity
Sincerity
Moderation
Hard Work
Courage
Personal Responsibility
Friendship

The Nine Principles
1. America is good.
2. I believe in God and He is the Center of my Life.
3. I must always try to be a more honest person than I was yesterday.
4. The family is sacred. My spouse and I are the ultimate authority, not the government.
5. If you break the law you pay the penalty. Justice is blind and no one is above it.
6. I have a right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, but there is no guarantee of equal results.
7. I work hard for what I have and I will share it with who I want to. Government cannot force me to be charitable.
8. It is not un-American for me to disagree with authority or to share my personal opinion.
9. The government works for me. I do not answer to them, they answer to me.

STEP ONE: If you agree with at least seven of those principles please send a digital version of your picture to: wesurroundthem@foxnews.com

STEP TWO:
There will be a special program called 'We Surround Them'March 13th on FOX News 5pm ET which is 3pm Mountain time. I invite YOU to come watch this program with me in my home. I don't have cable so I plan on having it recorded so we can watch it together that evening. - Tiffani

DAY FOUR

The story about the airman, Jay Hess is taken from the "Finding Joy in the Journey" talk by Pres. Monson (refer to Day One). Read the story below. In 25 words or less, write what you would say to your family if you weren't sure you would see them again. Keep this letter in your journal.

Pres. Monson shares, "In the 1960s, during the Vietnam War, Church member Jay Hess, an airman, was shot down over North Vietnam. For two years his family had no idea whether he was dead or alive. His captors in Hanoi eventually allowed him to write home but limited his message to less than 25 words. What would you and I say to our families if we were in the same situation—not having seen them for over two years and not knowing if we would ever see them again? Wanting to provide something his family could recognize as having come from him and also wanting to give them valuable counsel, Brother Hess wrote—and I quote: “These things are important: temple marriage, mission, college. Press on, set goals, write history, take pictures twice a year.”"

REVISED: Finding Joy in the Journey - join us!

While I was attending church in Hawaii, I learned of a timely program that they were starting. It is called "Finding Joy in the Journey" and it is focused on preparedness. We all know we need to be physically/temporally prepared (food storage, etc) but we also need to be prepared spiritually for the challenges that lie ahead. I want to share this program with you. It's a 31 day program - are you in? Please leave me a comment if you are committing your participation. You will be given a small daily task.

Here is a sneak peak to Day One (Sunday, Feb. 22nd)!
Day 1 - Read "Finding Joy in the Journey," by President Monson. Ponder and highlight points that inspire you. Enjoy an Almond Joy as a bonus! (The ward provided each person in the program with a lunch bag titled "week one." In that bag was this talk, the almond joy bar and the various little things that accompany each day for that week. I can't mail you each a bag - so this will take a wee bit of effort on your part. Just do it! Sacrifice brings forth the blessings of heaven.)

I encourage you to invite your spouse along with family members and friends - let's strengthen and learn from each other. I hope that you will also share your experience and thoughts with us along this journey.

Paul and I are doing this together.

Hawaii

Tara and I spent about a week on the island of Oahu. We had a great time - just wish the weather was warmer (that's why we aren't playing on the beach in these pictures). We visited the Polynesian Cultural Center, the temple grounds (closed for 18 months), hiked Diamond Head Lookout, shopped at the International Marketplace, went to Pearl Harbor, saw the last quarter of the BYU Hawaii vs. Dixie Mens BB game, ate and played with Aunt Marilyn and Uncle Wade and much more. Here are a few photos of our highlights - I know there are many - but I took about 430 pictures!

I am home!

I flew in Friday morning around 9:00 am - which means that I did not get any sleep on the red-eye flight. Instead I spoke with Jerry, the man next to me on the flight from Honolulu to Seattle. I noticed he was reading books about Abraham Lincoln and George Washington so I initated a conversation with him. Come to find out we were both conservatives with the same concerns and love for our country, our economy, our freedom, our children and their education, and our future. I have felt an increased need to educate myself so I can be better prepared and aware of what the future may hold. I urge you to become involved and aware in what is going on in our country. After a week of not reading the paper or listening to the news/radio programs, I was anxious to get back up to speed on my current events. How many people is Obama going to appoint that have not paid their taxes? That is mind boggling to me....you and I both pay our taxes. Why are the rules different for people in Washington? Oh, that is only the tip of the iceberg....... Come on everyone, we need to be responsible, we need to be informed, and we need to stand together for truth and righteousness.

A MUST READ!

I have recently read this book (library copy) and have wanted to purchase one for myself. This book is a MUST read for every American. In this book, you will discover the 28 fundamental beliefs of the Founding Fathers which they said must be understood and perpetuated by every people who desired peace, prosperity, and freedom. These beliefs have made possible more progress in 200 years than was made previously in over 5,000 years. Thus the title "The 5,000 Year Leap".

This book sells for $12.56 on Amazon, the retail price is $19.95. I found a site, National Center for Constitutional Studies, that sells the book for $5 (plus shipping) when you order 10 or more copies. Would you like to purchase a copy for you or anyone else? I will put together an order if you are interested - the total comes to $6.40 per book (with shipping added). I am placing an order tonight for 13 copies - if you hurry I will add you to that order. Or I can place a separate order if we have at least 10 copies.
If you live out of town - you can gather your friends and family to make a purchase together. For all of you family members, it's your lucky day because Mom is ordering you a copy. I have to tell you so you won't order another one - so act surprised when Mom gives it to you!
