Bountiful Baskets

I just heard today that Bountiful Baskets has come to my town, I can't wait to try this out!

So this is what it is - you pay $15 to get a ton of fruits and veggies, typically 6 kinds of each and a bunch of them. Each time they vary. One week you might get things like potatoes, carrots, grapes, and bananas and then the next time around you might get asparagus, corn, cherries, and limes (plus more of course). You pay on their site and then you have to come pick it up at a certain time, typically at a park or something like that. If you don't come on time or at all they will give your basket to a local fire station. You also have to bring your own container to carry your things home. It will fill up an entire laundry basket of fruits and veggies!

There are a ton of locations in Arizona, Idaho, Nevada, Texas (one), Utah, Washington, and Wyoming. I hope some of you get a chance to try it!

My $20 Find

The girls and I garage sale every Saturday morning faithfully. This weekend Paul's alarm woke me up at 5:00am and I heard the girls wake up at 6:00 am. So I got up and checked craigslist for our local garage sales and found a neighbor sale starting at 7:00 am. So we hurried and got ready - we wanted to squeeze it in before the dance dress rehearsal at 10am.

We had visitors, Mom and Keith staying with us. I woke Mom up at 6:30am (sorry), I didn't think she would want to miss out on the shopping!

We found some fun things. My best find was this black leather Coach purse for $20. She wanted $25, I offered $15 and we settled on $20. She said she paid $200 for it and used it twice. It looks brand new to me. It's just what I needed because I returned my cute cheap turquoise purse because it was peeling after two months. With that money, I was able to buy this one and get a much nicer purse!

Yes! I got a 2nd Fridge, Finally!

A week or so ago, I begged Paul again for a second fridge (one for the garage). I have gone since this Sept. (since we moved here) without two fridges and have barely survived! I said that I would get the garage all organized and then reward myself with a fridge.

I got a little bit carried away and found one today for only $20! Actually the fridge was free - but I asked him if he could deliver it for $20! Sometimes I wish I had a truck and trailer! But still it was worth the small deliver fee. It is a much older fridge, but they say it works! Anything is better than nothing, if it works, right?

I have to confess that I didn't keep my deal. I wasn't planning on finding a fridge for such a great price yet. I sort of happened upon this deal. The garage is in desperate need of a few hours. Now I better show Paul that I will get it clean!

Tons of Granola Bars

Yesterday I took advantage of the Albertson's Quaker sale. I bought 80 boxes of granola bars for something like $7.00 total - that averages out to be about 9 cents a box! I bought coupons off ebay and then also had to pay sales tax on the free boxes (free because I had a coupon that was also doubled). I drove all the way across town to another store that had some in stock. This particular store will let you pay for your items during the sale with coupons and doublers and then pick them up later when they are re-stocked - cool, huh?

I got some other great deals - but that deal was a hit!

Winter Shopping

I just realized that I shop a lot during the winter (probably because I want to get out of the house and another huge reason is that there are no garage sales). This increased shopping all starts with getting ready for Christmas, then I shop all the sales after the holidays. My favorite stores to keep my eyes on are: Williams Sonoma, Target, The Disney Store, Build-a-Bear, Pier One, Michael's, Joann's, Craft Warehouse, and various online stores that sell tall sizes (Gap, Banana Republic, Old Navy).

Earlier this week I went hog wild with the Albertsons "twice the value" coupons. On one of my store visits, I spent a grand total of $15.85 and saved $187.86! I was very happy with myself!

Then I went to Bath and Body Works and saved 90% on everything I bought - which totaled around $45 plus I got another $10 off that sale amount! Score!

Then I went to the mall and found three items: a shirt, a dress, and a scarf for $5.99 each at New York & Company, a store going out of business (thanks to the tip from Jody).

There have been other deals, like the $5 coupons to Build-a-Bear. The girls love that store and I must admit I love buying cute little clothes and accessories, also! Another deal is that Trade Secret in the mall has their 1 liter bottles of shampoo and conditioner 50% off, so I bought a bottle of my favorite Joico Moisture Recovery Conditioner - it smells so good and makes my hair so soft!

I even scored a deal at Costco while returning an item. There was a lady in front of me returning a Bakugan set. It caught my eye because Porter loves these toys and his birthday is coming up. When she found out that they would only give her $10 (she didn't have a receipt and all the Christmas toys were marked down) she decided to keep it since it was originally $35-40. I approached her and asked if I could buy it from her - she agreed to $20. I was happy because I still got a great deal and I know Porter will love this!

Todays Bargains

I'm the first one awake in the morning, sitting at my computer I looked at the various garage sales on craigslist. There are still a few, even though it is chilly. I climb upstairs to the girls room and wake them up by saying, "Girls, do you want to go garage sale-ing with me?" Of course, that gets them up and dressed quickly.

There is a picture of us before our hunt. We only found a few items - check it out. Some old movies - The Rocky Series (that my kids have never heard of before) and the Indiana Jones movies. Plus we found a few shirts and a couple skirts for Vivian at 25 cents each - wow! Us, girls, love Saturday mornings! They are always sad during the winter when there are no more garage sales.

Online Cable TV- free!

I had tried a few different websites that offer free cable TV. Marne shared this one with me "Channel Surfing.net" and it works consistently well! I don't have cable TV because I don't want to pay for it plus I don't want it in my home (too much of a temptation and time waster for me). I usually watch the various news networks while I am working out, but I like to watch Glenn Beck's show at 3pm on Fox News. I don't want to go to the gym again, so I watch it online with my computer!

Corbin and I dined at Tucanos

We had a great date. We talked about school and his new interest in girls. I'm scared at that thought. We also ate lots of great food at their salad bar and then we ate way to much meat that they continuously brought to our table. It was too hard to turn it away, especially their sirloin steak and grilled pineapple.

By the time I got home, I told Paul I wasn't feeling well and that I didn't want any meat for a long time. I woke up in the night with strained muscles (from hefting food storage boxes) and a heavy stomach. I got out of bed at 3:30 am after laying there one hour with no luck of returning to sleep. I started packing up the girls bedroom, then I tried to throw up but only dry heaved. I told Paul I thought I may be "pregnant" because I felt so yucky. He said I was only pregnant with meat! Oh, those all-you-care-to-eat places get the best of me every time because everything tastes so good and I can't stop! The next day all I ate was watermelon - I still haven't had a bite of meat.

April warned me that it would be too much meat. I believe you now! Meat in moderation is best.

I had a garage sale!

I wish I would have taken pictures of the garage sale that I had this morning at the house. It started at 7:25 am with some early birds! It was successful - I got rid of lots of stuff. You all should be proud of me! Some of the bigger items I sold on craigslist the previous week.

I like observing people shop at garage sales (normally I don't do this because I am the one trying to find the "deal"). Some people take their time to look, touch, and hold almost every item and walk away without finding anything. Others take a forever and find 1 or 2 things that total 50 cents. It's funny how much people like to touch - even though they already know how it will feel. The power of touch! There was a tall oak bookcase (real wood) that I thought would sell fast for only $7.00 -but it never sold! I paid over $100 for that. I think I may just paint it black and sell it to myself. :-) When I garage sale, I like to come prepared with small bills and change (so many people don't) so I can get in and out. I figure if I take too long at one garage sale, I might miss a deal at the next one! Time is of the essence!

I love garage sale shopping. The girls were bummed that we didn't go out today - we ALWAYS go out Saturday morning and then we end at the Farmer's Market (next to Lowe's) and buy some produce and a pork tamale for lunch!

P.S. I just read that strawberries are on sale for $3.99 for 4 lbs. at Cash and Carry... I just bought them for $1.50 a pound at Costco. I just made a couple batches of strawberry freezer jam today. My kids just wolf them down fresh!

Watch out for Ladies with the BIG BINDERS

Tonight after Enrichment (where I spoke about Food Storage on a Budget and Tamra Irish spoke about Couponing -p.s. check out Discount Queens where she is a contributor) I stopped by Albertsons for my last two transactions with this great sale. There I ran into Tamra (surprise...surprise) and I met a couple other couponers - you can spot them a mile away with their big coupon binders! The store was almost completely empty so we talked about the hot deals and shared coupons with each other. It really captured the true spirit of couponing - sharing deals with each other! Thanks Tamra for the lipton sides coupons - I used all 12 of them.

The spell checker doesn't like the word "couponing or couponers" so I don't know if they are real words. Oh well, I love to make up my own words, I do it all the time.
